A. Upon payment of a fee to the Parking Fund, the City manager or designee may issue law enforcement parking permits to a chief of police or county sheriff for the purpose of authorizing official unmarked law enforcement vehicles on official business to park at metered parking spaces without payment to the meter for periods longer than the posted time limit.

B. In the event that the City manager or designee has elected to issue permits to a chief of police or county sheriff, the chief of police or county sheriff may issue the law enforcement parking permits to law enforcement personnel within his or her agency as the chief of police or county sheriff deems appropriate.

C. The permit shall be in or on such vehicle so that it is readily observable by parking services officers.

D. Permits shall expire at the end of each calendar year. The chief of police, county sheriff or designee shall renew existing permits or obtain new permits from the City manager or designee within five (5) working days of the expiration date.

E. The permit fee shall be established based on recovery of lost parking meter revenue and expenses incurred to provide law enforcement parking permit services.

F. The chief of police, county sheriff or designee shall cancel any permit that is no longer needed. The chief of police, county sheriff or designee shall retrieve and cancel any permit that is not properly used. (Ord. M-4168 § 3, 2016)
