In filling vacancies, consideration should be given to ensuring representation of the broad range of interests related to parks and recreation in the community:

1. Commissioners should be knowledgeable about one or more aspects of VCPRD programs (e.g., trails, sports leagues, environmental open space) or willing to become appropriately knowledgeable and conversant about parks and recreation issues.

2. Commissioners should be broadly representative of the different neighborhoods and areas served by the parks and recreation system.

3. Commissioners should be representative the diversity of ages, abilities, and racial and ethnic groups in the community.

4. Commission members are expected to attend city events (park/facility dedications) and visit the parks and recreation facilities on a regular basis to provide input on any subject that encompasses the City's recreational facilities, needs, and programs. (Ord. M-4070, 2014; Ord. M-3452, 1999)
