The city cemeteries shall be operated and maintained by the city department of public works. The director of public works, subject to regulation by the city manager, shall appoint a lead cemetery official to be responsible for administration of this chapter and for the operation and maintenance of the cemeteries. He or she shall be designated for the purposes of this chapter as the lead cemetery official and shall have all duties which are imposed on a sexton or lead cemetery official by any existing ordinance or law.
